Objectives

Our national partnership of trans and gender diverse (TGD)-positive community and healthcare organizations, members of TGD communities, the public sector, academics, and trainees from all provinces and territories aims to improve supports for TGD survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence. Our five objectives are to:

  • TGD-led and TGD-positive organizations across Canada, including those serving Francophones, will be identified through existing Ontario trans-LINK Network members, listings of 2SLGBTQIA+ and other community, health, and hospital-based organizations, as well as Google searches of key terms in both official languages (e.g., transgender, sexual assault/aggression sexuelle).

This objective is affiliated with the Connection Working Group.

  • We will develop the first Canadian, population-based survey (trans-LINK Canada Network Survey) focused specifically on sexual assault/intimate partner violence against TGD persons to fill research gaps on its magnitude, severity, risk and protective factors, consequences, and associated help-seeking. These data are critical to the development of evidence-informed gender-based violence interventions and a coherent system-wide response.

This objective is affiliated with the Context Working Group.

  • We will study access to services for TGD survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence by: a) examining their geographic characteristics, b) gathering insights from survivors, and, in response c) generating sector-specific recommendations with service providers. This data will elucidate service gaps for all groups of TGD survivors and inform strategies to address the current individual, relational, community, and systemic practices and policies that prevent survivors from accessing the supports they need.

This objective is affiliated with the Advocacy & Accessibility Working Group.

  • We will create novel, national curricula, building on a phased approach used in previous collaborative work (Providing Trans-Affirming Care to Sexual Assault Survivors; Providing Trans-Affirming Care to Sexual Assault Survivors: e-Learning Curriculum). We will conduct a scoping review of the gray and scholarly literatures/resources focused on intimate partner violence in TGD populations, and environmental scan of any best practices/resources in community and sector-specific services and supports and use findings from the interviews and surveys to develop the final e-learning curricula for health and social service providers, police, workplaces, and universities/colleges.

This objective is affiliated with the Education & Training Working Group.

  • We are developing a central Knowledge Hub, which will be critical to mobilizing research and knowledge generated and exchanged across the trans-LINK Canada Network. The Knowledge Hub includes existing resources as well as new resources arising from our project (e.g., curricula, guides, infographics, blog posts, websites, toolkits, clinical summaries, etc.) We will maintain and routinely evaluate the knowledge hub using implementation science to assess, for example, access (user frequency, duration, location, experience) and number of resources, e-learning activities, webinars, and inform revisions to its content, structure, and promotion throughout the project.

This objective is affiliated with the Knowledge Sharing & Exchange Working Group.
